
What is dry stone (pedra seca) construction?
Pedra seca is a construction technique that does not use any kind of binder or lime mortar to join the stones. The 18th and 19th centuries are considered the golden age of dry stone construction when this trade was developed to organize the landscape and the land for agriculture.
Workshop
Roger Solé, an Artisan specialized in pedra seca with more than 10 years of experience, taught the participants the good practices and constructive techniques of dry stone construction.
The hands-on workshop took place at Torroella de Montgrí Natural Park, which has several dry stone walls and structures in need of reconstruction.
